Boat Races in St. Clair

July 29-30, 2017  St. Clair, Michigan

We said goodbye to a nice couple, Fred and Kano, who have a permanent slip next to ours.
It's always fun to have good neighbors, even in a marina.

There was a big boat race here in St. Clair this weekend. The crane that loaded the boats into the water was right behind our boat.

Saturday we walked down to watch the time trials.

Some of these boats can go 150 mph! It was really windy and the St. Clair river was pretty churned up.

We had VIP seats, thanks to our new friends, Larry and Maureen Allen, and our old friends, Jerry Campbell and Jan McDonald. We were joined by Diane and Jim Siler.

One flipped over, no race for them on Sunday.

This is the Batmobile Boat.

Sunday was the race.
Here come five of them. They do eight laps.

We had VIP seats again today, and got to sit with our generous hosts. I was able to sit right on the bank of the river to take pictures. There was a much larger crowd today.

Vroom, vroom, there goes one.

After they finish their race, they go past the crowd and everyone claps and waves.

Here they are lined up along the Pine River, waiting for their race.

Our plan is to leave here on Tuesday, August 1st, and head north on Lake Huron, then south on Lake Michigan, through Chicago, St. Louis, and on down to Tennessee.
