Port Sanilac to Port Austin

We left Port Sanilac on Wednesday, August 2nd, headed for Port Austin.
Another short ride, pretty smooth, but it started to get a little choppy about noon.

Coming up on the reef light where we had to make a turn. I thought it was a freighter coming from a distance.

Port Austin Municipal Marina

Port Austin is another small town, but it has some bed and breakfasts, some restaurants, a hardware store, a bank.

This is Turnip Rock. I would love to tell you that we paddled out there in kayaks, seven miles, but we didn't. Thought you might want to see it anyway, it is one of Port Austin's attractions. It's too shallow to get there with our boat.

So on Thursday, the wind was out of the NE and it rocked the boat all night. It's still bossing us around as I write this, at 4 pm. We decided to stay, after agonizing about it, because there is only a small window of opportunity tomorrow, (Friday). The waves would have hit us broadside, not where you want them. However, if we don't get out tomorrow, we will be stuck here until Sunday. Many boats have come in this afternoon, and we've been asking them how their trip was. They all said ROUGH, we made the right decision!
So what do you do when you're stuck somewhere with no car, no TV, no friends? You wash the boat, fix the generator, wash blinds, do laundry, vacuum, cook lunch and go to the hardware store!

Friday, gusts to 25-30 mph for the next two days. This is one of the apps we use to keep us out of trouble. It's called Predict Wind. It runs a loop to show what the wind, wave height, etc. are doing in a week's time. Very helpful.

But, not a bad view and a whole marina full of boaters taking refuge. Looks like Sunday will be beautiful. Patience....
