Charleston, South Carolina

Thursday, May 5, 2016
We left Beaufort, early, headed for Charleston. Got into the Coosaw River, and it was so choppy, it was terrible. Luckily, it only lasted about an hour and a half, and we were back in a narrower river that was more protected.
Getting closer to Charleston, we started to see homes with docks that went over the sawgrass marshes, the longest we have ever seen.

You would need a bicycle to go out to your boat!

We arrived in Charleston in 18 mph winds and a tidal current of 4-6 mph. They wanted us to dock in a slip that was just a little wider than our boat. Robbie navigated it into the slip perfectly, it was a thing of beauty! The dock hands commented, people on the dock complimented him, it was amazing!

We had to put bumpers between the boats, they were so close.

Friday, May 6, we went downtown to look around.

Downtown Charleston, like a nice mall, but outside and in beautiful old buildings.

There were several buildings like this one, we were told it was the old slave market. Now it is a place with vendors.
Sad to think of the history that played out here.

Then we went down to "The Battery", oh my.
Here is an article and more photos of the area: The Battery

Tomorrow, May 7, we will head for McClellanville, South Carolina.
